On Our Way!

It all began as any good pilgrimage should...with a challenge. Ten minutes from the airport in Montreal, we found ourselves stranded on the side of the road with the hood up - looking for cell coverage, a taxi, and a small mechanical miracle. The first miracle of our pilgrimage came in the form of a friendly little man down the street who just happened to own a garage. He snapped into action despite the fact that he was trying to close up shop for the day - summoning the rescue taxi, recharging the van's battery just enough to roll up the windows and lock the doors, and giving us instructions to call him in the morning.

As I chatted with our savior, the kids emptied the van of our backpacks. Grandma and Grandpa tried to figure out how this little airport shuttle to Montreal had turned into an overnight excursion at a roadside hotel north of the border. The taxi arrived, and we said an odd roadside goodbye. Packed into a cab, the kids and I settled on an optimistic view: We were only ten minutes from the airport, and it's good to get the travel challenges out of our system early. Things can only get better...

Not quite the start or the departure photo we anticipated, but the airport selfie will do just fine.  We are on our way!
